About Me

Born in Boyle Heights and raised in Southeast Los Angeles, Gabi Gomez brings a down-to-earth perspective to her role as a Council Member in Bell Gardens. Her roots are firmly planted in the communities she proudly serves.

Having grown up in Bell Gardens, Cudahy and Huntington park, Gabi played in local parks, and attended local schools before graduating high school and venturing off to college. Gabi continued her studies at the University of LaVerne, Universidad Iberoamericana de San Ignacio de Loyola in Mexico, D.F., CSULA and Mt. St. Mary’s University where she earned her BA in Liberal Arts with a focus on sociology.  Upon graduating from college Gabi decided to return to the community which saw her grow up and where her mother, brother and nieces have lived for two decades. Returning to the community that saw her grow up helps to keep her grounded and focused on her passion which is serving others.  

Gabi is a true public servant not a career politician.  She has dedicated her entire career to serving the public.  Gabi has worked for the Los Angeles Department of Public Social Services for over 30 years.  Gabi started as an Eligibility Worker, where she directly assisted people in need - including low-income, immigrant, and unhoused populations by helping them access vital programs, benefits, and support.

In recognition of her outstanding work, Gabi Gomez was awarded the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) 2019 Administrator of the Year at the CalFresh Forum. This honor was a result of her exceptional efforts in developing an outreach campaign to raise awareness about the CalFresh program. Her #ChooseCalFresh campaign gained so much traction that it was adopted by CDSS for their statewide CalFresh awareness initiative.

Today, as a Public Information Specialist and DPSS Spokesperson, Gabi continues to bridge the gap between the government and the public through media interviews and community engagement opportunities, creating awareness of programs and services. Her experiences have given her an authentic perspective on the challenges faced by working-class families and individuals.

Gabi views her position as Bell Gardens Council Member as an opportunity to serve her community. With a focus on improving quality of life, responsible financial management, building social equity, advocating for environmental justice, and supporting fair housing practices, she aims to ensure that the city and its residents not only survive but thrive. Gabi envisions a Bell Gardens where everyone's needs are met, and where the community comes together to create a better future for all.

Gabi Gomez's journey from local schools to public service exemplifies the importance of staying connected to one's roots. She humbly offers her experience, skills, and knowledge to ensure that her constituents have access to the services and opportunities that will help them achieve their dreams and goals.
